Welcome to Zororo (Zulu for ´rest´), a tranquil and relaxing haven set in the green heart of Central Portugal’s Beira region, frequently described as the most striking rural area of the country.

Located at the edge of a traditional village in the Serra Lousã hills, with the Ceira River 300 metres down the valley.

We also offer the opportunity to join us in an evening meal at our luxury accommodation, exclusive to adults, who enjoy time away from the stresses of everyday life (and children!) in the company of others who appreciate delicious food, great local wine and absorbing conversation in well appointed surroundings.

Our five double bedrooms are all en-suite, generously proportioned, air-conditioned and centrally heated, each having a balcony with views across the valley or to the forest.

There is a large lounge and dining room, with contemporary furniture over Italian marble flooring, linked by a spectacular handmade double spiral staircase of wrought iron.

Guests have use of a huge games room with a pool table, futebol table, large LCD TV (including UK channels), DVDs, plus board games, books, etc. Outside in the garden is our new 12-metre swimming pool with mosaic sun bathing area, a hard surface tennis court and our own 300 plant vineyard.

Your stay includes breakfast and the option of a mouth-watering three course evening meal, using seasonal local ingredients and regional Portuguese dishes, with aperitifs, wine (including our own reds), liquors and coffee, all taken in the company of your hosts, Kevin and Tanaka.

The hills and valleys surrounding us are heavily wooded and dotted with stone built cottages and hamlets….the pace of life here hasn´t changed much for a long time.

Walks through unspoilt pine, chestnut, and eucalyptus forests abound and the enchanting village of Góis, with its ancient bridge and cobbled streets.

Góis Valley Riding stables, one of the longest established and most respected in the area offering a variety of hour, half and full day treks. All are just 5 minutes by car away.

Within a 30-minute drive are the more urbane delights of the University City of Coimbra, with modern and traditional shopping, museums, cathedral and river excursions. The quiet sandy and dune-backed beaches of the Silver Coast are around a 1½ hours drive due west, the spectacular Serra da Estrela National Park the same distance east.

Cuisine

Your stay includes continental breakfast and the option to join us in a three course evening meal, prepared wherever possible with fresh local ingredients according to the season.

Breakfast will typically include a choice of cereals, toast, yogurts, fresh fruit (from our trees in season), juice, teas and coffee, plus Tanaka's homemade plum jam, marmalade and lemon curd.

If you have chosen to eat with us in the evening, you are offered a choice of aperitiffs whilst during the meal carefully selected local wines, including the vino tinto from our own vineyard, and soft drinks are freely available.

Tanaka is the head chef, so elements of her native Zimbabwe may creep into the dishes to surprise you, and as hosts we normally join you and the other guests at the table.

A vegetarian option will be available if requested in advance and special dietry needs can usually be catered for - please mention these as soon as convenient.

After you have eaten you are encouraged to take full advantage of the games room downstairs, relax in front of the television or perhaps you would prefer to visit a local café-bar in the cool of the evening at one of the river beaches nearby?

Outdoor Dining

One of the features many of our guests enjoy is the concept of outdoor living.

In addition to the gardens and poolside lounging areas, we have a semi enclosed private quarter with garden chairs and swing, a comprehensive covered barbeque facility along with a polished stone table and seating under the fragrant tilia trees and sun umbrellas.
