Quinta do Barranco is a small, intimate, holiday retreat for peace and relaxation. It boasts a blend of traditional hospitality, ´International home-cooking´ cuisine and a friendly atmosphere with excellent service.

Set in a beautiful lakeside location in central Portugal, the Quinta is surrounded by unspoilt countryside with a wide variety of wildlife and rare birds in the gardens and surrounding countryside.

The Quinta has eight double en-suite rooms, a Family Suite and a Honeymoon Suite.

Quinta do Barranco has two large drawing rooms with log fires, a sauna, a roof terrace, one vine covered terrace and various lawns within the two acre garden that drops down towards the water.

The Quinta really is an ideal place for a break away from it all.

With plenty of space all around you and a total absence of man-made noise it's the perfect venue to unwind on a holiday break whether you bring children or not.

With various activities and specialists in residence you'll always have something to interest you if you want to be active, and space for peace and quiet if you wish to chill out.

Each evening, an informal but delicious dinner is served under the starry sky. Guests are often tempted back to the lake after their meal to catch crayfish, swim or simply take a stroll.

There are a variety of speciality courses available, including Birdwatching and Shiatsu Massage.

The Quinta can be easily accessed by road. There are regular trains from Lisbon or Faro, both of which are serviced by scheduled or charter flights from most major airports.

Guests can arrange their own car hire or they can be collected from the airport (Faro is 1½ hours drive away, Lisbon about 2½). The Quinta is happy to arrange road transfers between the airport or the local railway station.

The Quinta is located in the Lower ´Baixo´ Alentejo. As the crow flies, it is about 40 km from the West or South coasts.

Please note that our latest check-in time is 22.00.
If for any reason you're going to be later than this please let us know and we'll organise someone to stay up for you, but this is charged at 10 euros per hour.

We have a professional chef at all times at the Quinta and can provide all your food while you're here.

The style is "International Home Cooking", i.e. our meals are prepared on site with, as far as possible, local ingredients. There's lashings of it - you won't go hungry - and it's not from packets.

Lunch is a buffet style eat-all-you-can selection of hot and cold dishes followed by pudding, with water and coffee supplied but other drinks extra; dinner is a slightly more formal 3 course meal.

Vegetarian food available on request, which we prepare with as many fresh vegetables and fruits from our organic garden.

Quinta do Barranco generates its own solar power and has its own water and waste disposal systems.

The owners life-long love of nature and ecological issues has made him an expert on the local Fauna and Flora and specifically anything to do with ornithology. He continues to work towards protecting and preserving this unique country side for future generations.
