Portugal Yurt Retreat is the perfect place for those looking to relax, unwind and take in the beautiful surroundings. Enjoy swimming, walking or private yoga classes tailored to your level of experience.

Located in a beautiful little valley on the edge of the village of Madeirã, Portugal Yurt Retreat is in the real heart of Portugal, within a forest setting and just one kilometre from the Rio Zêzere and Barragem do Cabril.

Portugal Yurt Retreat welcomes families to come and stay. The property is child friendly and safe, there is a trampoline, sandpit and swings which can be used at any time.

Portugal Yurt Retreat offers low impact vegetarian fullboard and B&B holidays to singles, couples, friends and families.

The spacious yurt has a queen size double bed, a sofa which converts into a single bed and an extra single mattress is available should you need it. There is shelving and a hanging rail, a small desk and chair and a woodburner should there be any exceptionally cold evenings.

Adjoining the yurt there is a covered outdoor dining area with a basic kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with a sink, a two ring gas hob, a small fridge, pots, pans, crockery and cooking utensils. Close to the yurt and dining area there is a private shower with solar hot water and a compost toilet.

Teas, coffee, basic condiments and a fruit and snack basket are included in the rental price.

For our B&B guests, lunch and evening meals can be provided on a day to day basis for a small additional cost. Baskets of organic seasonal vegetables from our own garden are also available for purchase, subject to availabilty.

 

Eco Living

At Portugal Yurt Retreat our aim is to live as sustainably as possible by producing the things we need from the land, reducing the need to purchase products or recycle. We use both solar and hydro power for our electricity, and wood to heat our living spaces and water during the winter months. We provide solar heated water during the summer months. Our toilets are eco-friendly compost toilets.

Household products

We make our own biodegradable soap, washing up liquid and clothes washing liquid. Our soap is made with olive oil and is available for use during your stay. Should you require your own hair and body washing products, we ask that you only bring products that are natural and biodegradable all our the waste water is drained into the land.

Utilities

Portugal Yurt Retreat generates it's own electricity through solar photovoltaic panels and a recently installed hydro electric generator. For most of the year we have enough sunshine to generate electricity for our daily use. This year we have installed a small hydro electric generator for use during the winter when we get lots of rain and the stream flows. This has dramatically reduced our need for a diesel generator.

The yurt has electric lighting and a power point for charging laptops or mobile phones. We have a mobile internet connection that is free for occasional use during your stay.

Off-Grid Sustainable Technology

If you are specifically interested in off-grid sustainable technology, we are happy to talk with you during your stay about the ways in which we generate energy, and try to live as sustainably as possible.
