O Homem Verde offers low impact holidays in a traditional Mongolian yurt in a peaceful woodland valley nestled amongst olive mimosa and oak trees.

O Homem Verde Retreat is the perfect place for those looking to relax, unwind and take in the beautiful surroundings. Enjoy swimming, walking or just sit back and relax.

Located in a beautiful little valley on the edge of the village of Relvas, O Homem Verde Retreat is in the real heart of Portugal, within a forest setting and just 10 minutes drive from the historic town Penela.

O Homem Verde Retreat welcomes families, couples and friends to come and stay. Our wish is provide a relaxing, easy and welcoming ambiance for all, set in a low impact, sustainable and child friendly environment.

Staying in a yurt is a magical experience. You can watch the night sky through the circular roof from the comfort of your bed, drift into a peaceful sleep to the sounds of the night and relish the romantic, almost medieval charm of a circular space.

The spacious 6 meter yurt has been furnished in a contemporary/ethnic/rustic style (woodland chic) and has one double bed, a comfortable sofa, table and chairs, clothes storage space a fridge and a wood burning stove. There is electricity and wifi internet.

There is a private south facing decked terrace with a table and chairs, a small kitchen area with a 2 ring gas hob, pots, pans and utencils and a hammock.

Hot water shower and washing facilities are located behind the yurt and are constructed in bush style-private and covered but with open views to the sky and surrounding greenery.

At the end of the terrace, nestling under oak trees is a two function eco-compost toilet, large and airy, it has running water, washbasin and is placed to give you a lovely view of the hills opposite

At O homem Verde Retreat we are proud that our facilities are low impact and eco-mindful and are built using local timber and recycled materials. They are a clean, functional, stylish and fun way of maintaining a connectedness with the environment and will certainly add to your experience.

Recycling as well as compost bins are provided.

Our surroundings allow plenty of opportunity for exploration and adventure if you want it, with plenty of off the beaten track nooks and crannies for peace and privacy.

Bathable waterfalls, river beaches and natural pools are just a short drive or walk away. There is an abundance of wildlife, take a long moment to watch the dragon and damsel flies dancing around you whilst cooling off in a dappled sunlit stream.

Enjoy the firefly display in the early summer evenings whilst you sit out under the night sky watching shooting stars

The historic and pretty village Penela is just a few minutes drive away. Penela Castle sits on a granite mountain and occupies an area of approximately half an hectare. The architecture is a mixture of Romanesque and International Gothic styles.

Praia das Rocas is a large open air swimming pool/leisure complex with wave machine fed by the warm waters of the Ribeira de Pera.

Located in the centre of Castanheira de Pera town, there is ample free parking spaces and a great day out, well worth a visit.

Louçainha Praia Fluvial, a natural fresh water river beach on the mountain road from Campelo to Lousa.

Shaded free parking areas, lots of large open spaces for sunbathing, cafe bar/restuarant onsite for snacks and lunch menu.

Coimbra, Portugal's 3rd city is a 40 minute drive and home to one of the worlds oldest universities, founded in 1290 by King Dinis. Coimbra sits on the edge of the River Mondego. In the old town narrow cobbled streets lead to hidden squares with cafe bars, shops and ancient churches.
