We invite you to join us at Quinta do Cavalinho on a riding holiday that allows you to ride as much or as little as you wish. On our 3 hectare farm we have a yard of 8 stables with excellent facilities for keeping and training competition horses, including a full sized 20 x 60 arena and extensive turnout paddocks.

We are a small business and very flexible, you can decide on a daily basis, whether or not, and how many of your party, would like to join our daily programme of training, teaching and hacking.

There are a number of different holiday options available, each of which can be self catering, half board or full board.

Including 6 days riding of either lessons in our international sized arena or hacking out in the surrounding lanes and forests for between an hour and two hours.

QDC Lusitano Experience

Including 5 days of lessons or hacks, according to your choice, plus a full day visit to the Alter Real Stud - a real experience of a working Lusitano Stud Farm, as well as an afternoon visit to a local equestrian venue or event, depending on what is going on at the time.

QDC Fully Flexible Holiday

This is a holiday designed according to your wishes: it can be a short break, perhaps a long weekend, and can include from one day's riding to riding every day. Perhaps on one day you wish to go sight seeing, of you may wish to ride on your own while your friend or partner does something different – perhaps cycling, walking, sight seeing or just relaxing in the garden. Accommodation will be charged on our normal rates, and then we will charge for board and riding as you have pre-arranged. Just contact us to discuss your requirements.

QDC Non-Riding Holidays

Stay at our holiday cottage and be free to explore the wonderful countryside and activities in this part of Portugal. This could also be a choice for those of you looking for a property in the area, or indeed for viewing Lusitano Horses with a view to buying.

You can mix and match any combination of the above for each member of your party, so that everyone has the holiday experience they desire. Prices per person per week are shown in the table below

Children under 14 years of age 50% reduction in price

We are able to provide airport transfers from Lisbon Airport at £100 per car or Porto Airport at £125 per car (paid locally).

Insurance and Equipment

Riding is a risk sport and we recommend that all visitors wear kite marked safety hard hats when riding. We have a small selection of hats, but it is preferable that you bring your own. Anyone riding without a hat does so entirely at their own risk.

We suggest that you bring jodhpur boots or boots that are suitable for riding, along with chaps and comfortable jeans or breeches. We hope it will be sunny and warm during your stay, but it is advisable to bring a few warmer clothes and a waterproof jacket, in case the weather decides to be unkind.

We are covered for liability insurance, but we must advise riders and people handling the horses, that accidents can happen, even though we try to avoid them at all costs. Please ensure that you are covered with your standard or holiday accident insurance.
