Tomar is a historical town on the banks of the Nabão River and probably most famous for its 12th century Templar castle. The main street leads to the Gothic Church of São João Baptista and the main square is surrounded by 17th century buildings. 20 kilometers south of Tomar you will find the fairytale Templar Castle of Almourol, built in 1171 on a little island in the middle of the Tagus River. |
